The Mission statement is “Holistic, integrated thrust to ensure clean land,
clean water and clean air, generating an overall cultural awareness with people’s
participation and empowering women to ensure improved productivity in the state.
This initiative is launched as a next generation reform of transforming the cities
and villages as live able and workable areas by Shri Narendra Modi, Honorable Chief
Minister of Gujarat. The Mission was given the flexibility to outlines its own role.
It was also empowered to undertake consultations with each department to facilitate
the designing of an individual departments’ strategy. In fact, the Mission
literally started with a “clean slate” with many departments. Nevertheless,
for the major participating departments, the Chief Secretary initially guided their
strategy formulation and later the departments themselves, under the proactive guidance
of their Secretaries came out with innovative strategies. Now Nirmal Gujarat is
a unique convergence of twenty five government departments' activities of cleanliness,
environment and public health.
